Italian Kitchen

We have looked at the menu at the Italian Kitchen a few times since it opened in 2016 and always thought the pastas looked rather overpriced compared to other Italian restaurants and the choice seemed a bit restricted so for two years we stayed away. It seems we may have made a mistake! With me being unable to drive for four weeks recently we were forced to look closer to home for our meals out having to either walk or use the infrequent local bus services and so, desperate for an Italian meal, we decided we would give it a go.

When we arrived in Wareham back in 2006 this was the Trottolina, a very traditional and somewhat run down family restaurant. The owners retired and it closed for a while and re-opened as something else but was a total failure and soon closed. After an extensive refit it opened again as the Italian Kitchen in the summer of 2016 and we rather cynically said we thought it would not last long but are happy to admit we were wrong.

My favourite dish at the little Italian we go to in Wimborne is penne arrabiata with chicken and so on our first visit to the Italian Kitchen, seeing it on the menu albeit 30% more expensive than in Wimborne, I thought I would give it a go and see how it compared. I know I am easily pleased but I have to say I was astonished at the difference and it was worth every extra penne (pun intended!). Indeed it would be unfair to attempt to compare the two versions of the same meal. Being impressed we returned ten days later and this time we went for something completely different; the mushroom, cheese and parma ham stromboli. Having never had a stuffed pizza before were not sure what to expect but it was superb, more please!

So, we have two years of missed good quality Italian meals to catch up on, the Italian Kitchen is now very firmly placed on our list of regular eating houses.
