Kings Arms [Stoborough]

The King's Arms at Stoborough is our 'bolt hole' when things go wrong and we need to eat out! That's not the only time we go there of course but it is a place we can trust and feel comfortable in. It is close to home and we can be there in a few minutes.

It is a typical Dorset country pub although I suppose it is not really 'in the country'; it looks out one the water meadows of the River Frome across to the town of Wareham about half a mile away. It is an old building, 400 years old in fact, with oak beams, open fire and low ceilings, it has a nice atmosphere.

It is typical pub food with a mix of simple meals like fish and chips, ham egg and chips, chicken curry, steak and ale pie - you get the idea! But they also have a range of more 'exotic' specials to chose from. The prices are reasonable and the service is generally good. I always feel it is a good sign when the staff do not keep changing from one visit to the next, it provides a degree of confidence that the place is well run and the staff are happy and, having seen behind the scenes, would be happy to eat there too!

For us, the only downside is that in summer it can be quite busy and we like peace and quiet! Children are welcome but are expected to behave! Most families sit outside in the beer garden which is particularly popular on a warm summers evening (when we get one). As we tend to eat there at lunch time it is not usually a problem but if you are thinking of going there in the evening or at weekends then book first.

As I said above it is nothing but a Dorset country pub, accept it as that and I think you will be pleased with a visit there.
